January 1, 1956

A new year now has just begun,
The old is in the past;
The good which we have learned, my dear,
Let us hold with firm grasp.
Come, let us strive with all our might,
To reach a perfect goal;
The goal of perfect love, my friend,
To beautify the soul.

So many lesser goals may try,
To gain our first concern;
Such as power or that of gold,
But let us never turn;
Unto the sordid things of life;
Which fail to satisfy;
The longing of immortal souls,
Which long for God on high.

Come, let us do as Mary did,
Sit near the Master's feet;
And strive to make His perfect will,
Our constant daily meat.
I'm sure we'll reach our perfect goal,
If we press onward, dear;
And untold joy and peace we'll have,
Throughout the entire year.
